Almost every new skill that you acquire will come with its own set of vocabulary. All new vocabularies can be a little bit intimidating initially and SEO is a skill which comes with its own vocabulary. Here are some of the most important SEO words that you will come across.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) even this term can be confusing when you first begin learning about the topic. SEO refers to the methods that certain people use in order to make sure that their websites will perform to the best of their ability on the search engines. SEO for many people refers to how well they can get their website ranked in the Google search engines due to the fact that the most popular search engine these days is in fact Google.

Backlinks/ inbound links Backlinks are the links which will send another person directly to your website. If another website has links to your website then you should receive more visitors to your site and the search engines will rank your site higher.

Keywords The terms that are used by people looking for information on a website are referred to as keywords. It is important that you are aware of these keywords so that you can have them in your content and make it easy for the Google search engine to find you.

Keyword density if you are writing an article you may want to use a keyword a certain number of times in order to improve your SEO.

Rank How well your website scores on the search engine results is referred to as its ranking. For example it would not be great if your website was only ranking on the 50th page of the Google results for a targeted keyword.

The above are just an example of the words you may hear when talking about SEO. It is highly likely that you will hear other terms in relation to SEO.
